Care & Longevity: Looking after your bespoke Jewellery
Handmade Jewellery is an art form, it requires a little extra love and mindfulness to ensure it shines for generations. Here is our comprehensive guide on how to wear, clean, and store your new favourite piece.
To keep your jewellery looking pristine, make it the very last thing you put on in the morning and the first thing you take off at night.
Avoid harsh chemicals such as cosmetics, perfumes, hairsprays, lotions and anything that contains a solvent. All of these items can tarnish metals and dull the brilliance of stones, including diamonds.
Keep it dry! Always remove your jewellery before showering, swimming or doing the dishes and washing up.
Handmade jewellery is durable, but precious metals and natural stones are not invincible. We recommend removing jewellery during exercise and sports sessions, cleaning and gardening and arguably most importantly, while you sleep. Sheets can catch delicate claws and edges leading to stretching, pulling, breakage and damage.
How to clean your jewellery:
Mix a few drops of mild, fragrance free dish soap in a bowl of warm (not hot) water.
Let your jewellery soak for between 3-5 minutes.
Gently brush away any dirt using a baby-soft toothbrush.
Rinse under water and dry with a lint-free cloth.
Some precious metals such as silver tarnishes naturally. The best remedy for removing tarnish on silver is to wear it! The oils in your skin actually help to reduce oxygen contact with the silver surface.
For a more professional finish, any products specifically designed to finish / bring back a shine on precious metals is recommended however if you are unsure, please ask a professional for advice.
Storage:
When you are not wearing your jewellery, we always recommend separating your jewellery, and placing it back inside the box it was provided with. Always fasten necklaces and store all of your jewellery in a dry warm place.
